As you can see from many of the examples of my work, I’m a news journalist in the main and have been for years. I’ve covered all sorts of stories, from major court cases to military embeds in Afghanistan right down to village fetes and cats stuck in trees in the early days of my career as a cub reporter on my local paper.
But there are some that stick with you more than others. One of those is a tale you might have spotted among the examples of my work is the tale of tradesman who recruited a gang of builders to complete a moving DIY-style SOS revamp of his friend’s house after he was diagnosed with terminal cancer.
It wasn’t just me who thought it was a great story. After appearing in the Daily Mail, it was picked up by publications across the UK and beyond. But the ‘Band of Builders’ wasn’t about the overnight fame, their effort to raise money for Keith Ellick is ongoing. With a target of £100,000 they’re continuing their fundraising and plan to carry on to help other tradesmen who find themselves in the same position as Keith.
After interviewing Addam and working with him to tell his and his Band of Builders’ story, I was privileged to be asked to be part of the team and help them continue to spread the word about what they’re trying to achieve. From writing Keith’s story for their new Band of Builders website to helping them with pr and getting the word out there, I’m super proud to be involved with such an inspiring group of people.
Keep your eye on the website for more updates and to keep track of their journey.
